Electric car charging points set up in London
Boris Johnson launches the Source London scheme which allows paying members to charge their car. Currently there are more than 2000 electric vehicles on London’s streets with 150 charge points available. With the membership, users can park their cars in the designated bays, swipe the car, and wait for them to charge. The scheme is looking to implement a further 1150 charge points by 2013 giving London more charge points than petrol stations. Electric vehicles are currently exempt from Congestions Zone Charge and Road Tax along with government subsidies to help boost the public interest in green motoring. Anyone who purchases a Nissan Leaf will receive a year’s free membership. Heathrow and Gatwick, Asda, Ikea, Sainsburys, Capital Shopping Centre and Underground are all working with Source London.
